Symon, Devon

My 12 x Great Grandfather John Symon, he was born to Lawrence Symon (details apart from name unknown) who lived during the reign of Henry VIII. John was born (3 years after King Henry's death) in 1550, in Braunton, Devon. Henry's son had ascended the throne at the age of 9 and reigned for 6 years before succumbing to TB. After the 9 day fiasco with Lady Jane Grey ascending the throne after his death, John lived through Mary Tudor and well into the reign of Elizabeth I.

In 1550 The Duke of Somerset was removed from his post of Protector of England. He was replaced by The Earl of Dudley (later the Duke of Northumberland) and the father of Robert Dudley, favourite of Elizabeth I.
