Mayled Ancestor, Somerset

Moving into more modern times, my 4th G Grandfather, William Mayled was born in Creech St Michael (a small village near Taunton in Somerset) in 1803.
Creech St Michael became busier with the arrival of the Bridgwater and Taunton canal in 1827.

Parts of the Parish Church of St Michael's date to the 13th Century.

In the year of 1803 George III was on the throne and the Napoleonic Wars began. When William was two years old, Nelson died after winning the Battle of Trafalgar.
In Williams lifetime, two of George III's sons succeeded him.
George IV

then William IV

They in turn were followed by Victoria in 1837.
William died in 1884, just 3 years before Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee.
